Tulin kirjoittamaan eilisestä ja tästä päivästä, vitsit miten paljon mulla onkaan kerrottavaa! Eilen oli tosiaan viikon viimeinen päivä töissä. Aamu alkoi Slovenian kartan piirtämisellä viidennen luokan seinälle. Opettaja antoi mulle kuvan kartasta käteen ja pyysi piirtämään sen suurempana luokan eteen. Ja minähän piirsin! Tämän jälkeen oppilaat sijoittivat kartalle erilaisia maantieteellisiä paikkoja, kuten Alpit ja pääkaupunki Ljubljanan. Sitten mulla olikin englantia sekä nelos- että viidesluokkalaisten kanssa, pääsin taas kertomaan itsestäni simppelillä ala-aste-englannilla ja pitämään vähän kuriakin. Twinkle twinkle little starin toistaminen useampaan otteeseen kun ei oikein kiinnostanut osaa pojista. Päivän kohokohta oli ehdottomasti se, kun muutama kuuro / huonokuuloinen opiskelija ammattikoulun puolelta tuli juttelemaan mulle. Yhteistä kieltä oli hieman hankala löytää, mutta ymmärsin keskustelustamme kuitenkin sen verran, että olen kuulemma todella kaunis ja että aiomme vielä hengailla yhdessä. Kiva saada uusia omanikäisiä ystäviä! Lisäksi opettajat, joiden työparina olen työskennellyt, kertoivat oppilaidensa olevan kovin ihastuneita minuun. Ihana saada jo parin päivän jälkeen noin positiivista palautetta :)
Hey everyone!
I came to write about yesterday and today, oh God how much I have to tell you! Yesterday I had my last day of the week at work. I started my day with drawing the map of Slovenia to the wall of fifth graders' class room. The teacher gave me the picture of the map and asked me to draw bigger version of it in front of the class. And I did it! After that pupils put different geographical places to the map, the Alps and the capital city Ljubljana, for example. Then I had English with fourth and fifth graders, I told about myself again in simple primary school English, and I also got to keep the order in class. Twinkle twinkle little star repeated few times wasn't so interesting due the part of the group full of boys. The highlight of the day was definitely that a couple of deaf / hard of hearing students from the secondary school came to talk to me. It was pretty hard to find a common language to communicate, but I understood that they think I'm very beautiful and we're going to hang out together later. It's so nice to make friends of my age! In addition, the teachers I've been working with told that their pupils have a crush on me. How wonderful is it to get that positive feedback after a few days working?! :)
Pääsin töistä aikaisin viikonlopun viettoon. Kävelin uskomattoman kauniissa säässä kämpilleni ja päätin olla perjantain rennosti seuranani vain tietokone, herkkuja, viiniä ja musiikkia. Katsoin netistä suomalaisten suosikkisarjojeni uusimmat jaksot ja juttelin Skypessä kullan kanssa. Viiniä tuli juotua kyllä ihan liikaa, sillä muutamien lasillisten jälkeen aloin epäillä tölkissä lukevien prosenttien todenperäisyyttä ja kovensin juomistahtiani. Aamuöiseksi päänsäryksi ja pahoinvoinniksihan se meni, hyihyi...
My day at work ended early and I got home to start a weekend. The weather was amazingly beautiful when I walked home. I decided to spend my Friday at the apartment by relaxing with my laptop, delicacies, wine and music. I watched the newest episodes of my favorite Finnish tv-series and talked with my partner in Skype. I have to tell you, I drank too much wine... After a few glasses I started to be skeptical about the percents written in the wine can, so I drank faster and faster. I ended up with a horrible headache and sickness at four in the morning, yuck...
Heräsin tänään hieman ennen puoltapäivää, kävin suihkussa ja laittauduin päivän koitoksia varten. Lähdin käymään Lidlissä, mutta eksyin matkan varrella ja jouduin kysymään tietä paikallisilta. Loppujen lopuksi sain kuin sainkin tarpeelliset ostokseni tehtyä, jonka jälkeen Samo tuli hakemaan minut kaupan pihalta. Vietiin ostokset nopeasti meille ja lähdettiin ajamaan kohti Ljubljanan keskustaa. Ensin Samo halusi näyttää minulle Tivoli Parkin, kaupungin suurimman puiston, jossa olikin näin aurinkoisena päivänä runsaasti ihmisiä. Oli kyllä lämmin päivä, tarkenin ohuella neuletakillani vallan mainiosti! Puistossa oli mm. laajoja nurmikkoalueita, tekolampi sorsineen, kahvila ja suihkulähde. Pystyin helposti kuvittelemaan, kuinka ihanaa puistossa olisi viettää kesäpäivää vaikkapa piknikin merkeissä.
This morning I woke up a little bit until the midday, took a shower and put myself ready for the day. I was about to go to Lidl, but I got lost on my way and I had to ask some advice from local people. I managed to get there to buy some stuff and after that Samo picked me up in front of the store. We brought the products I bought to my apartment and drove to the centre of Ljubljana. First of all, Samo wanted to show me Tivoli Park, the largest park of the city. As a sunny day there were lots of people around. It was really warm day, I was fine with wearing only a thin shirt. In the park there were for example big areas of grass, man-made pool / lake with ducks, cafe and a fountain. I could easily imagine, how lovely would it be to spend a summer day there having a picnic or something like that.
Puistosta suuntasimme ydinkeskustaan, jossa olikin todella paljon väkeä. Sloveniassa juhlitaan tänä viikonloppuna St. Martinia, ja keskustassa tämä näkyi viininmaistajaisina. Kymmenissä kojuissa tarjottiin erilaisia viinejä ja pieniä suupaloja. Jos lysti ei olisi maksanut eikä olisi tarvinnut jonottaa, olisin varmasti itsekin ryhtynyt viinikierrokselle. Onnistuin kuitenkin saamaan maistiaisen slovenialaista mansikkaviiniä, joka oli kyllä todella ällömakeata tavaraa, vaikka pullo näyttikin houkuttelevalta.
From the park we walked to the city center, and there were so much crowd all over the place. Slovenians are partying this weekend for St. Martin, that's why they had some kind of wine tasting happening in the centre. Tens of booths offered different wines and small snacks for guests. If it hadn't cost and if I hadn't stay in a queue, I would have attended to wine tour too. I was lucky and I got a "shot" of Slovenian strawberry wine. It was disgustingly sweet, no matter how tempting the bottle looked like.
Keskustasta jatkoimme matkaa korkealle kukkulalle, jossa sijaitsee Ljubljanan linna. Minusta linna muistutti todella paljon Turun linnaa. Kiertelimme vain sen ulkopuolta, sillä linnan sisälle päästäkseen pitää maksaa pääsymaksu, emmekä uskoneet reissun olevan hintansa väärti. Ulkopuoleltakin sai hyvän kokonaiskuvan linnasta ja maisemat olivat jälleen kerran aivan huikeat! Niin korkealta näkyi koko kaupunki kaikessa loistossaan. En voinut kuin haukkoa henkeäni. Slovenia on kyllä kauniine rakennuksineen ja vuoristomaisemineen todella upea maa.
We continued to high hill, where the castle of Ljubljana is located. In my opinion, it reminded the castle of Turku in Finland. We walked around the outside of it, because we should've bought the ticket to get inside. We didn't believe it would be worth it. I got really good general view from the outside and the landscape was absolutely amazing again! From the top of the hill the whole city was seen on its best. I could just gasp. Slovenia is very wonderful country with the beautiful buildings and mountains.
Laskeuduttuamme kukkulalta Samo vei minut slovenialaiseen katuravintolaan syömään. Mietin pitkään, uskallanko tilata jotakin paikallista, minulle tuntematonta ruokaa. Rohkenin kuitenkin tilaamaan slovenialaista makkaraa, jossa oli lisukkeena kai jotakin kaalimössöä? Makkara oli ihan hyvää, mutta se mössö alkoi tulla korvista ulos. Minusta sitä olisi saanut olla annoksessa vähemmän. Slovenialaisessa ruuassa on kyllä hyvin itäblokkimainen meininki. Palvelu oli kuitenkin hyvää, annokset paikan hienouteen nähden edullisia (oma annokseni 13 euroa) ja sijainti ihan loistava. Syömisen lomassa ihastelimme vieressä virtaavaa jokea ja ohi kulkevia ihmisiä. Auringon laskiessa tuli vähän viileät oltavat, mutta pöytämme alla oli "lämmitin", joten ainakaan jalkojen ei tarvinnut palella. Maksettuamme annoksemme lähdimme kulkemaan kohti autoa, kunnes huomasin unohtaneeni puhelimeni ravintolaan! Olin hädissäni, sillä Samo oli juuri aiemmin samana päivänä varoittanut varkaista. Kiirehdittiin takaisin ravintolaan, emmekä löytäneet puhelinta pöydästämme. Menin kysymään tiskiltä, ja lukuisten epämääräisten vastausten jälkeen yksi tarjoilijoista antoi lopulta puhelimen kouraani. Olin niin helpottunut!
After going down from the castle hill, Samo took me to a Slovenian street restaurant to have a dinner. I was thinking so long, am I brave enough to order something local food that is totally unknown to me. In the end I dared to order Slovenian sausage with some mash of cabbage I think? The sausage was pretty good, but the mash started to frustrate me. There should've been less of it in the portion. Slovenian food really has a strong effect of Eastern Bloc. But I think the service was great, portions were quite cheap (my portion costed 13 euros) and the location next to the river and the street full of people was fantastic. During the sunset we started to feel a bit cold, but there was some kind of "warmer" under our table, so at least our feet stayed warm. After paying our food, we were going to the car. Then I noticed that I had forgot my phone to the restaurant! I was very worried about it, because earlier the same day Samo had warned me about the thiefs. We hurried up back to the restaurant, and the phone wasn't in the table we used to sit. I went to ask about my phone to the counter, and after many nonspecific answers a waiter gave the phone to my hand. I was so relieved!
Käytiin puhelinepisodin jälkeen vielä BTC:ssä kiertelemässä parit liikkeet. Ostin New Yorkerista legginssit, joita ihastelin sovituskopissa jo torstaina, mutta jätin ne jostakin kumman syystä kauppaan. Kaduin päätöstäni, ja hain ne tänään itselleni huokeaan viiden euron hintaan. Ihastuin myös suureen liikkeeseen nimeltä Terranova, mutten tällä kertaa ostanut sieltä mitään. BTC:ssä tulee varmasti rampattua vielä monet kerrat. Kauppakeskuksesta Samo heitti minut kämpilleni, ja menin vuokranmaksuasioissa poikkeamaan host momini luona. Hän tarjosi minulle jääteetä ja istuimmekin tovin keittiön pöydän ääressä jutellen. Misa on kyllä äärettömän mukava tyyppi! Sellainen äitihahmo... Harmikseni jouduin siirtymään oman asuntoni puolelle, kun kello oli jo paljon ja minulla oli vielä paljon tekemistä (kuten tämän postauksen kirjoittaminen). Suunnittelimme kuitenkin jo käyvämme kahvilla lähipäivinä. Reissuni alkaa päivä päivältä innostamaan minua yhä enemmän ja enemmän! Koti-ikäväkin on jo hellittänyt. Huomenna ajattelin viettää päivän leväten, tiskaten, ruokaa laittaen ja sään salliessa ulkoillen. Ja koska huomenna Suomessa vietetään isänpäivää, aion myös skypettää isän (ja äidinkin) kanssa illemmalla. Kohta alkaa taas uusi viikko ja uudet kujeet, siihen saakka mahtavat viikonlopun jatkot kaikille! :)

After the phone episode we visited the BTC to check a couple of shops. I bought the leggins I had already admired on Thursday, but back in the day I left them to the shop for some weird reason. I regretted my decision so I took them with me today. They costed only 5 euros. I also had a little crush on a shop called Terranova, but at this time I didn't buy anything from there. I'm sure we will go back to BTC many times. Samo drove me home from the mall, and I visited my host mom's house because of some rent paying things. She offered me a glass of ice tea and suddenly I found myself sitting for a longer moment with her in the kitchen. We had really good conversation, and I have to say, Misa is absolutely nice woman! Some kind of mother figure... What a pity, I had to go to my own apartment because it started to be late and I had many things left to do (for example writing this post). Me and Misa planned to go to have some coffee together in the next few days. My trip here has begun to excite me more and more, day by day. My feelings of being homesick have also eased up. Tomorrow I will rest, do the dishes, cook something good and maybe go outside if the weather looks nice. And because tomorrow is the Father's Day in Finland, I'm going to have a Skype conversation with my dad (and mom ofc) in the evening. A new week with new stuff is about to begin soon, but until that I wish awesome continuation for your weekend! :)
